Meet Savanna

Savanna, 6, is a keen swimmer in our Learn to Swim Program here at Grace Swimming. Her Mum used to be a Swimming Teacher and has been teaching her herself since she was a baby, and she has been a confident swimmer since she was a Toddler. Both Savanna’s Mum & Dad are both strong swimmers – her Dad used to compete at State Level regularly and her Mum used to do Club Swimming at Clontarf. So the passion for the water runs in the family! Savanna has been swimming here since 2018, and loves her lessons and Club Nights.

Savanna loves the water, and her favourite stroke is breaststroke. “I want to keep getting better at it,” she said. “But I also really like Butterfly. It’s hard though, you have to get your arms and your bottom up which is tricky!” Savanna’s Mum is really glad she likes her Butterfly. “It was always my stroke and so I am happy Savanna likes it as well! The best thing about having our own pool is that she will just swim and play for hours on end”.

This is her proudest moment in swimming. She received Gold for 6 years and under in Butterfly, Silver in Freestyle, Silver in Backstroke, Bronze in Breaststroke, and Age Champion for 6yrs. She had the highest points for all girls over all age groups from this day. When we asked her what her favourite part was, her face lit up. “I didn’t know about the trophy part. I didn’t know you could get trophies, and then I got to go home with one!!” Well done, Savanna, you earned it!

We want to extend a big congratulations to Savanna, not just for her results – but for her dedication and attitude towards swimming. “She always loves her lessons,” her Instructor, Carol, says. “She is so motivated and enthusiastic for every lesson and that really does come from her passion for being in the water. She is always keen to learn and she has improved so much!” The more we can teach our children to find enjoyment in their swimming, the more they will thrive.
